McCann and Partners is proud to have worked on the project alongside Rightacres Property Company Limited, Holder Mathias, ISG, Arup, Gleeds and Cast Interiors.
New office Calon, part of the Cardiff Interchange, has been awarded the Best Corporate Workplace for its commitment to outstanding workplace design, wellbeing and sustainability at the South of England and South Wales Regional BCO Awards.
Calon is a 120,000 square foot office space that has become Legal & General’s headquarters in Wales. It marks the pinnacle of the company's £1 billion investment in Cardiff, alongside a £475 million contribution to the revitalization of Cardiff's Central Square.
McCann and Partners worked on the project alongside Rightacres Property Company Limited, Holder Mathias, ISG, Arup, Gleeds and Cast Interiors. Our team provided the MEP services for the building (and the Cardiff Interchange project as a whole). It also provided BREEAM services for the office accommodation.
Judges were particularly impressed with the project’s framework for innovation and sustainability elements, with the project supporting the generation of new jobs, homes, and entertainment in Cardiff, empowering local communities.
Calon also won the ESG award after the judges found environmental stewardship to be at the core of the project, which attained a BREEAM Outstanding certification.
Additionally, the project was awarded WELL Platinum standard, with notable occupier-centric technological innovations brought in to monitor air quality, along with the implementation of natural lighting into the design. The judges also complimented the operational net-zero initiatives in place, with the building’s solar panels and air source heat pumps providing 100% of the energy used onsite.
Associate Rhys Silcox said: “We are thrilled to be part of the team for this prestigious project and delighted that it has been recognised in the BCO awards. Sustainable building design is at the core of everything we do here at McCanns and we look forward to the national finals in October.”
